She has been hired to produce the Portland Wolves' Heritage Season campaign for Vince Mercer's 1,000th game. She has a production binder with color-coded tabs. She has a pen behind her left ear. She has a run-of-show for her dentist appointments.
What You See
Elara commands a room the way a good penalty killer reads traffic: every angle mapped before she sits down. Her heels click with a rhythm that sounds more deliberate than she feels. She negotiates vendor contracts, shuts down front-office interference with a single sentence, and runs Heritage Season meetings with the precision of a woman who has been producing events for eleven years and knows that the person who owns the next step owns the room.
She's competent in a way that looks effortless, which means she makes it look effortless, which means it isn't.
What You Don't
Elara was a hockey wife for five years. She married Daniel Caruso when she was twenty-three, and by twenty-five she had organized her own disappearance. Not dramatically. Quietly. She became the supporting element in someone else's hockey schedule, her holidays governed by road trips, her career built into the margins of his. When she finally left, Leo was four, and the first thing she packed was the binder.
She copes by organizing. Every feeling gets a tab. Every vulnerability gets a deliverable. She added three tabs to the Heritage Season binder overnight because anxiety needs somewhere to go. Nadia, her business partner of eight years, names this pattern the way a weather forecaster names systems: clinically, with respect for their power, and with the understanding that naming them doesn't stop them.
On the Job
Elara doesn't build forgettable programs. She builds things that outlast the applause. The Heritage Season is her biggest single-client year, and she treats it with the seriousness of a woman who knows the difference between a commemorative puck set and an actual story. She researches footage nobody else knew existed, flies to Calgary for archive appointments, and identifies a five-month gap in the institutional record before anyone asks her to look.
She writes two Heritage Night scripts. One for celebration. One for the truth. The celebration version is better produced. The truth version is the one she chooses.
The One Thing
